83 immigrants haïtiens sans papiers déportés en Floride et interceptés 19 à l’ouest de Porto Rico.-

Ce mardi, un communiqué des garde-côtes indiquait que 187 chevrons interceptés entre mercredi et vendredi de la semaine dernière ont également été rapatriés à Cuba.

Le tsunami de migrants illégaux qui afflue depuis quelques semaines dans le sud de la Floride a conduit les autorités de l’immigration à déclencher des rapatriements massifs vers leurs pays d’origine.

Lundi, c’était au tour de 83 Haïtiens localisés au sud de Key West au cours des six derniers jours. Quatre des rapatriés ont été piégés plus au sud, dans le canal de La Mona, qui sépare la République dominicaine de Porto Rico.

« Le canal était […] une zone populaire pour les tentatives de franchissement, mais les eaux y sont souvent très dangereuses pendant la majeure partie de l’année. Comme c’est le cas dans le reste des Caraïbes, nous continuons les avertissements de danger pour la vie de ceux qui veulent entrer illégalement aux États-Unis » , a déclaré le porte-parole du septième district des garde-côtes.

Alors que la déportation des Haïtiens était en cours, 19 autres se trouvaient dans la réserve naturelle inhabitée de l’île de Monito, où ils ont été abandonnés par des passeurs. Isla Monito est située à l’ouest de Porto Rico, près d’Isla La Mona, qui donne son nom au détroit.

« Du 1er octobre 2022 au 31 décembre 2022, la Garde côtière a mené 14 interdictions de voyage illégales dans le passage de La Mona et les eaux près de Porto Rico. Durant cette période, 419 personnes ont été interceptées, dont 327 dominicains, 91 haïtiens et 1 de nationalité inconnue.

En revanche, ce mardi, un communiqué des garde-côtes indiquait que 187 chevrons interceptés entre mercredi et vendredi de la semaine dernière ont été rapatriés à Cuba. La note n’indique pas s’ils ont été envoyés au port de Cabañas ou à Matanzas, comme cela s’est produit lundi.

L’Union américaine des libertés civiles (ACLU) a publié une déclaration dans laquelle elle défend l’acceptation des immigrants illégaux et condamne la mobilisation de la Garde nationale par le gouverneur de Floride Ron DeSantis.

« Lorsque des migrants arrivent sur nos côtes, notre priorité numéro un en tant qu’État doit être de veiller à ce que toutes les personnes soient en sécurité, en bonne santé, soignées et traitées avec humanité », a déclaré Tiffani Lennon, PDG de l’ACLU .

Selon lui, « au lieu de politiser la question, les élus devraient travailler avec des groupes militants et aider les organisations qui ont proposé d’accueillir et d’accompagner les migrants et les demandeurs d’asile ».
