Une femme nigériane de 68 ans accouche de jumeaux.-

L’hôpital universitaire d’État de Lagos a annoncé qu’une femme de 68 ans avait accouché de jumeaux.

La BBC a rendu visite aux heureux parents au Lagos State University Teaching Hospital où la mère a accouché.

Le mari a déclaré qu’il leur avait fallu 43 ans et 3 tentatives infructueuses de fécondation In Vitro avant de concevoir leur bébé.

L’heureux papa, Noah Adenuga, a déclaré que cette quête pour avoir un enfant les avait emmenés jusqu’au Royaume-Uni avant qu’ils ne se décident à rentrer dans leur pays, le Nigéria où leur destin a changé.

Le jeune père de 70 ans a ajouté qu’il avait reçu des messages d’un groupe de médecins spécialisés en fertilité qui ont qualifié ses démarches de téméraires.

Le Dr Adeyemi Okunowo, qui les a pris en charge, a affirmé que la naissance des jumeaux était un « miracle », mais a également souligné que le couple avait pris un risque énorme pour la grossesse en raison de l’âge avancé de la mère.

La direction de l’hôpital a indiqué qu’elle ne devait pas normalement procéder à la fécondation In Vitro, sur une femme de 68 ans, mais a précisé qu’elle avait accepté de le faire parce que c’était une responsabilité médicale.

Après la visite de la BBC, les jeunes parents de 70 et 68 ans sont sortis d’hôpital. La mère et les bébés ont été autorisés à rentrer chez eux et tout le monde se porte bien.

Un miracle pas si rare

Ce n’est pas la première fois sur le continent africain ou ailleurs que des femmes qui ont dépassé l’âge de la ménopause donnent la vie.

En décembre 2006, l’espagnol Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara avait accouché de deux jumeaux, à l’âge de 66 ans.

En Septembre 2019, Erramatti Mangayamma, une indienne mariée depuis 54 ans a donné naissance à des jumeaux à l’âge de 74 ans à l’aide de la fécondation in vitro.

Un mois plus tard, une chinoise du nom de Tian a accouché par césarienne dans la province du Shandong à l’âge de 67 ans.

L’un des exemples connus de grossesse tardive est celle de Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, ancienne propriétaire de l’Olympique de Marseille, qui a donné naissance en 2016 à des jumelles à 53 ans.

Les risques liés aux grossesses tardives

En France en 2014, 138 femmes ont accouché à plus de 50 ans dans les hôpitaux français contre 40 seulement en 2000.

Un bond lié à l’évolution des techniques de fécondation in vitro mais qui ne voile pas les risques liés aux grossesses tardives appelées grossesses gériatriques. Il s’agit de grossesse chez une femme de plus de trente-cinq ans.

En effet les risques de complications sont élevés pour la femme de plus de 50 ans, la grossesse augmente surtout l’incidence du diabète gestationnel, de l’hypertension, ou encore la fausse couche.

La femme de plus de 50 ans a presque trois fois plus de risques d’accoucher avant terme par rapport à une mère âgée de 20 ou 30 ans.A cela s’ajoutent des risques d’éclampsie et de pré-éclampsie. En dépit de ces risques, les femmes accouchent de plus en plus tard.
